Sweida | Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation
On Friday, May 24, 2025, the Steps Syria Foundation concluded a specialized training program in Community Project Management and Peacebuilding. The program targeted 16 participants from emerging volunteer teams and civil society organizations in the Sweida Governorate. The intensive training lasted four days, with 6 training hours daily, under the supervision of trainer Reham Bahhas.
Training Responds to Urgent Local Need
This training was a direct response to challenges observed among local teams in Sweida after the liberation phase. While community initiatives showed clear enthusiasm for participating in reconstruction, they faced difficulties related to weak planning tools, a lack of understanding of the project life cycle, and limited experience in proposal writing and budget preparation. Therefore, the Steps Foundation sought to bridge this gap with content that combined theoretical and practical aspects.
Participatory and practical training methods were employed, including brainstorming, teamwork, analysis of real-life case studies, and presentations by the participants themselves.
Tangible Results and Future Recommendations
Participants developed four prototype proposals for realistic projects that are ready for further development. They also expressed their satisfaction with the quality of the content and the practical training, noting that the program provided them with actionable tools applicable in their local communities. Among the most prominent recommendations from the training were:

Sustainable Impact on Civil Work Environment
This training is expected to enhance the institutional performance of local volunteer teams, enabling them to form partnerships with donors in the future and improve the quality of community initiatives, especially in the sectors of education, social cohesion, women’s empowerment, and community health.
One participant expressed: “This training opened new horizons for me to understand how to build projects logically and systematically, and I felt that I am now capable of transforming my ideas into tangible reality.”
With this achievement, the Steps Foundation reaffirms its commitment to empowering local actors in southern Syria and providing genuine learning and development opportunities that enhance their role in peacebuilding and social cohesion.
