On March 23, 2025, the Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation organized a dialogue session in Al-Atarib, western Aleppo countryside, titled “Civil Peace: The Role of Governmental Institutions in Promoting and Building Trust between the State and Society.” Fifteen activists and community leaders, including a university lecturer and a journalist, participated to discuss how to restore trust between the state and citizens.
Peacebuilding and Justice: Themes and Recommendations
The session focused on the concepts of civil peace, transitional justice, and the required institutional reform. Participants discussed seven pivotal questions regarding the role of educational and security institutions, citizen participation in decision-making, and the importance of partnerships between government and civil society.
The seminar contributed to spreading the concept of civil peace, highlighting Syrian diversity as an asset, exchanging ideas on institutional reform, and building a continuous communication platform. Participants emphasized the necessity of transitional justice as a cornerstone of civil peace and the importance of education in building an aware generation.
Despite challenges related to the sensitivity of the topic, the seminar underscored the importance of repeating and expanding these sessions to enhance community participation and freedom of expression. “Steps Syria” continues its commitment to supporting trust-building and coexistence to achieve stability and development in Syria.
