Aleppo | Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation
Aleppo, June 29, 2025 – As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen social cohesion and build a unified Syrian society, the Steps Syria Foundation organized a dialogue seminar titled “Civil Peace in Aleppo City and Ways to Consolidate Social Integration.” The seminar, held at the office hall in Aleppo city, hosted 15 participants, including civil society activists, academics, lawyers, and politicians, as well as representatives from civil society organizations in Aleppo.
Confronting Division and Building Unity: An Urgent Necessity
This seminar came as a direct response to the challenges imposed by years of conflict and the divisive policies pursued by the former regime, which led to clear divisions among the components of Syrian society. The seminar aimed to disseminate the concepts of civil peace and social integration, and to raise awareness that ethnic, religious, and sectarian diversity should be a source of strength and unity.
The seminar was led by lawyer and civil activist Aya Naoura and included key themes on the concept of social integration and its pillars, the reasons for its absence, the need for reintegration in Syria, the role of civil peace and transitional justice as fundamental pillars, and the role of civil society in this process.
Constructive Dialogue and Promising Outcomes
The session was characterized by an open and constructive dialogue, where attendees shared their experiences and visions on how to deal with the situation before and after the fall of the regime, and the most important means to achieve social integration after deliberate distortion. Some misconceptions about civil peace were corrected, which deepened common understanding.
Prospects: Towards a Cohesive Future
The workshop showed that social integration in Aleppo still requires more effort, especially between residents and recent returnees. Participants emphasized the importance of involving government officials in such seminars to enhance community participation and clarify the situation.
Among the prominent opinions raised were: the necessity of applying transitional justice and reparations to consolidate integration, paying attention to social media platforms that spread hatred, and the importance of education’s role in instilling values of dialogue and respect.
The Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation reaffirms its commitment to continuing its efforts to promote civil peace and social integration in Aleppo and throughout Syria, believing that social cohesion is the cornerstone of building a strong and stable homeland.
