Aleppo | Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation
Aleppo, June 16-18, 2025 – In a move to enhance the efficiency of civil and humanitarian work, the Steps Syria Foundation concluded a specialized training titled “Project Management” at its office hall in Aleppo city. The training targeted 15 representatives from charities, volunteer teams, and local councils, including 9 males and 6 females, with the aim of disseminating project management concepts and their optimal application on the ground.
Building Capabilities to Improve Service Quality
The training spanned three days, totaling 18 training hours, and was delivered by Dr. Mounir Barhamji, a researcher and lecturer at Aleppo University with extensive experience in humanitarian work. The program aimed to empower participants to understand project management and its importance in the Syrian context, and how to apply its methodologies to improve the quality of services provided to the community.
The training included key themes such as project definition and its lifecycle, planning, monitoring and control, risk management, and the most important software used in project management. The sessions were characterized by integrating theoretical concepts with practical applications, where each trainee proposed their own project and included all the required details within the project lifecycle.
Promising Outcomes and Confirmation of Urgent Need
The training resulted in a deep understanding among participants of project management concepts and the ability to apply them within the local context. It also contributed to discussing the challenges and difficulties related to applying these methodologies on the ground.
Participants emphasized the urgent need to generalize the concept of project management among humanitarian associations, volunteer teams, and local councils, due to its ability to improve the quality of services. Many expressed their desire to attend more similar training courses, noting that this training is an important step to raise the level of projects implemented in Aleppo, especially given the weak support directed to such vital programs from international organizations.
The Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation reaffirms its commitment to supporting local capacity building, believing that effective project management is key to achieving sustainable development and improving living conditions in Syria.
