Aleppo | Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation
On May 21 and 22, 2025, the Steps Syria Foundation in Aleppo organized a specialized training titled “Effective Communication: Engaging Community Influencers with State Institutions.” The training aimed to build bridges of trust and enhance cooperation between community actors (lawyers, engineers, academics, activists) and government institutions, as part of the Foundation’s efforts to build a modern Syria.
Key Themes and Impactful Outcomes
The training was delivered by Professor Abeer Hussein, and its themes focused on the concept of effective communication, the role of influential figures, the state’s responsibility in building trust, community leadership, and participatory governance in state-building.
The training deepened participants’ understanding of communication skills and clarified the role of influential figures in public work, in addition to motivating them to adopt participatory practices with government entities. Participants noted the importance of this type of training in the current circumstances and the necessity of repeating it to raise awareness and capabilities.
Recommendations for a Future Built on Trust and Participation
The training concluded with important recommendations, including:
- Establishing regular dialogue platforms that bring together influencers and state representatives.
- Engaging community actors in formulating public policies.
- Expanding the scope of similar training to include youth and women.
- Granting community figures formal advisory roles.
“Steps Syria” reaffirms its commitment to empowering local communities and activating the role of actors in public life, to ensure the building of Syria on foundations of participation, trust, and mutual respect between citizens and the state.
