Steps Syria Boosts Constitutional Awareness in Aleppo

Aleppo | Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation | March 25, 2025

On March 25, 2025, the Steps Syria for Community Development Foundation organized a dialogue seminar in Aleppo on “The Syrian Constitutional Declaration.” Twelve participants, including civil society activists, academics, and politicians, attended with the aim of exchanging viewpoints on this fundamental legal document for Syria’s future after liberation.

Building a State of Law and Freedoms

The seminar focused on the importance of the Constitutional Declaration in establishing a transitional phase towards a democratic system that promotes justice, equality, and human rights. Participants discussed the declaration’s articles, its role in building a state of law and institutions, the challenges associated with its implementation, and how to address divisions.

The seminar adopted an interactive workshop style, which raised participants’ awareness levels, encouraged freedom of expression, and enhanced the role of activists in spreading constitutional awareness.

Recommendations for a Democratic Future

Despite challenges such as limited time and a lack of constitutional culture, the seminar emphasized the necessity of continuing these meetings to expand legal and political awareness. Recommendations included preventing the establishment of sectarian or ethnic parties and extending the transitional period to ensure proper preparation for elections.

“Steps Syria” reaffirms its commitment to continuing to spread constitutional awareness, believing that building a state of citizenship begins with open discussion and a deep understanding of the legal foundations for the transitional phase.
